Replacing Kiln Elements
Where can I find specs on kiln heating elements?

I picked up a Skutt 1227 at an auction but the elements need to be replaced.
I am considering winding my own elements to save some cash but would like to know how much tungsten wire I need for each element and what gauge to use for 1 phase at 240 volts. Any idea?

I think you will find that you don’t use tungsten wire, you use high grade resistance wire, like Kantal A-1. It gets fairly complicated because you have to go back and forth between length, coil spacing, watts output desired, etc. www.omegatc.com sells resistance wire in two grades. www.joppaglass.com has an online version of their catalog which discusses element needs for annealers that may apply to kilns.
Try Skutt literature http://www.skutt.com/pdf/index.html
I build my own annealers but don’t wind the elements, just buy them.
