What areas are good for study in terms of ceramics?

I need ideas for teachers / PhD study prehistoric / Medieval pottery in Ireland. I specialize in ceramics, but we must think of an interesting area for base my thesis. I have to get 2-3 years of work on the issue however. Scientific ideas are welcome. Im not asking people to think of a To me, throw me some ideas on where I can get the reflection on different research areas. Thank you!

Sounds like a great project – I had some ideas: Enamels – Colors, minerals and dyes, and methods shoot decorative pot – the construction of wheels, etc.
