I have a used electric kiln and the top elements do not heat up what do i do?
what is the process of elimination to find out why these elements won’t get hot, and if I was to try to fix it myself, what advice do you have for safety or how to do it?
The simplest thing is to look at the wiring. Unplug unit and remove covers. Usually either a heating element has burned up or a wire connection has come loose and burned up. Burned connections are easy to spot. If you have nichrome wire elements you will see a broken or missing spot. The best test for elements is to test them with an ohmmeter, low resistance is good, infinitely high resistance is bad. Don’t have an ohmmeter? Take the elements to an appliance parts store, they can test them. Do you have a wiring diagram? See if there is a separate thermostat for the top elements or any other limit switch, fuse, etc in the line to the elements. Call the manufacturer for help at this point.
