Glass Kiln Projects
a question about operating a kiln?

this is a simple project for kindergardeners….they will do a hand prind…i know, how boring…but can we use those glass beads, or little colored glass pieces, stuck in the clay…would they blow up, or maybe melt into the clay as a color?…thanks

I think this would need to go into a glaze fire operation instead of a bisque fire with greenware. They won’t “melt into the clay”…the clay goes through such a drastic change in a bisque fire, that I think the glass would melt on the surface but not fuse to the piece. You can give it a try, but I think it would be safer to just fire the pieces plain and let them paint them with acylics, then spray varnish if you want a glossy look.

Good luck!
